Missing an immigration notice can mean a missed biometrics appointment, interview, evidence deadline, or hearing. Updating an address with the U.S. Postal Service does not update an address with USCIS, and USCIS mail may not be forwarded.
USCIS cases
Most noncitizens must report a change of address to USCIS within 10 days of moving. USCIS encourages online address changes. Update each pending receipt number when required, keep confirmation, and separately update USPS.
Immigration-court cases
A person with a case in immigration court must follow EOIR’s address-change procedure, generally using Form EOIR-33 for each affected person and serving the required government office. A USCIS address change does not automatically update the immigration court.
Consular and National Visa Center cases
Cases handled by the Department of State may require a separate update with the National Visa Center or the responsible embassy or consulate.
